Hoosiers Play Host Cal and Ohio This Week

The Hoosiers (1-1) will host California and Ohio this week at the IU Hockey Field. Indiana takes on Cal at 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, before facing Ohio at 2 p.m. on Saturday.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS
Cal enters its first road contest on Thursday after opening the season with back-to-back losses to Miami (8/27, 4-3) and Michigan State (9/3, 4-3), before tallying a 5-1 win over UC Davis on Sept. 5. The Golden Bears are led by Megan Psyllos and Claire Dougherty, who have each scored three goals on the season for a team-high six points apiece.
Ohio enters Saturday's game with a 1-4 record. After opening the regular season with a loss to Radford (8/27, 0-1), the Bobcats picked up their first win with a 6-1 victory over Saint Louis on Aug. 29. Since then, Ohio is on a three game losing streak with tough losses to Ohio State (8/31, 1-2, OT), Rutgers (9/3, 0-1) and Drexel (9/5, 0-1). The Bobcats are led by Taylor Brown with four goals in five games for a team-high eight points.

LAST TIME
Cal leads the all-time series against IU, 3-2, however, the Hoosiers won the last meeting, 1-0, on Oct. 3, 2009, in Iowa City. Ohio also leads the all-time series against Indiana, 3-2, with the Bobcats winning the last meeting, 1-0, in Athens.
IU SPLITS OPENING WEEKEND
IU suffered a tough 1-0 loss to No. 9 Boston College in its first game of the UMass Invitational in Amherst on Saturday, Aug. 28. Goalkeeper Becky Pany recorded a career-high nine saves in 70 minutes in her second career start in goal. Morgan Fleetwood led the Hoosiers with two shots, one on goal, while Kristy McFadden, Brenna Moeljadi and Shareyna Change each tallied one shot. Boston College outshot Indiana, 15-5, on the game and recorded six penalty corners to the Hoosiers' two.
On Aug. 29, the Hoosiers recovered with a 2-1 win over UMass. Moeljadi led the Hoosiers with one goal on four shots, two of which were on goal. Fleetwood tallied three shots, two on goal, and Borneman came off the bench to score one goal on one shot. Kelsey Kiper recorded two shots and one assist, while Corey Brautigam, Fleetwood and Lena Grote each registered one shot. Fleetwood also tallied an assist on the game. Pany recorded one save and gave up one goal in 70 minutes in the net. Indiana outshot UMass, 14-10, on the game. The Minutewomen recorded nine penalty corners to IU's eight.
HOOSIERS IN THE POLL
Indiana dropped out of the top-20 after entering the 2010 season ranked No. 17. The Hoosiers currently have 98 votes, just behind Miami (Ohio) with 115 votes.
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• IU head coach Amy Robertson is one win shy of her 90th career victory as the leader of the Hoosiers. She currently stands at 89-98 with a .476 winning percentage.
• Redshirt sophomore Morgan Fleetwood returns after earning Second Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament and womensfieldhockey.com All-Rookie Team honors in 2009. In her rookie season, she set a single-season IU record in shots with 89 and tallying the second most goals (15) and points (36) in single-season history.
• Junior Corey Brautigam was a First Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Tournament Team and NFHCA and womensfieldhockey.com Third Team All-American honoree as a sophomore. She recorded four goals and two assists in 2009 for 10 points in 21 games for the Hoosiers.
• Senior goalkeeper Alex Mann, who recorded 80 saves and a 1.89 goals against average as a junior, leads the IU defense. She collected 14 wins and one shutout in 21 games.
SUCCESS OF 2009
The Hoosiers ended the 2009 season ranked No. 13 after going 14-7 with a trip to the Big Ten Tournament championship game and the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
