BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Freshman Shae Fournier was named the CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week after opening her Hoosier career with a team-high nine steals, to go along with two goals, an assist, and three earned exclusions during four games at the Michigan Kick-Off, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Fournier grabbed three steals in the season-opening loss to No. 6 Loyola Marymount, while also dishing out an assist and earning a kick-out. She followed that up with her second straight three steal performance in a loss to No. 15 Cal State Northridge.
Fournier notched her first career goal in the third quarter of a win over Colorado State, swimming past a Ram defender and tossing a short lob past the CSU goalkeeper for the score. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native struck again with her second goal of the contest three minutes later, firing in a skip shot goal on a Hoosier power play.
Against No. 1 Stanford, Fournier collected three steals for the third time in four games. She also earned a pair of exclusions during the loss.
The last Hoosier to take home CWPA Western Division Rookie of the Week honors was Katie Black on Feb. 15, 2010.
