Hoosiers Fifth After Day 1 of Lady Northern Intercollegiate

FRENCH LICK, Ind. - Led by top-five performances from senior Kristtini Cain and freshman Elizabeth Tong, the Indiana women's golf team is tied for fifth at the 12-team Lady Northern Intercollegiate being held at the Donald Ross Golf Course at the Resort at French Lick.
Indiana posted identical rounds of 300 to sit tied with Augusta State at 600. Ohio State leads the field at 583 (293-290) followed by Michigan (298-293/591), Iowa State (299-298/595) and UCF (308-290/598) to make up the top five.
The teams will finish tournament play with 18 holes Tuesday with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.
"This is a great venue, and we had some outstanding play today," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We posted our two best rounds so far in tournament play with a pair of 300s. Elizabeth played a very smart, solid round one and we had really balanced scoring in round two."
Cain was a steady player for Indiana, posting rounds of 73 and 74. Cain had two birdies in the first round along with 12 holes of par. She was -1 through the first 12 holes of round two but was tripped up by double bogeys on 13 and 16.
Tong had the best round of her young collegiate career in the first round, carding an even-par 71. She offset bogeys on seven, nine and 12 with birdies coming on holes two, six and 14. She followed up with a 76 in round two.
Junior Rosie Davies is tied for 33rd, carding scores of 78 and 76 for a two-round score of 154. Davies tallied three birdies in the first round and added one more in round two.
Junior Pamela Burneski is also among the top 35, sitting at tied for 35th with a 78 and 77 on day one. Burneski had 11 holes of par in the first round and came up with her first birdie of the day on the par-5 fifth hole in round two.
Junior Kate Coons is tied for 51st with a 36-hole score of 160 (86-74). After a rough start in round one, Coons bounced back with birdies on holes two and 13.
Competing as an individual, freshman Kamryn Klawitter is 68th with a score of 171 (88-83). Round two saw Klawitter hit par on eight holes, including four straight.
