Hoosier Men Take Fifth at Wisconsin adidas Invitational

MADISON, Wis. - The Indiana cross country teams raced some of the top teams in the country in Wisconsin's adidas Invitational on Friday afternoon. The men's team placed fifth overall as the women finished 29th. Andrew Poore led the IU men with a 23rd place finish as Samantha Ginther paced the Hoosier ladies coming in 64th.
The men's race featured 20 ranked teams including the No. 7 Hoosiers. IU's fifth place finish was behind No. 2 Wisconsin, No. 6 BYU, No. 4 Stanford and No. 14 Princeton. Five seniors did all the scoring for Indiana as Poore came across the line with a time of 24:13 on the 8K course followed by Ben Hubers in 27th in 24:16. Adrien Dannemiller placed 35th overall in 24:22 as Andy Weatherford clocked in at 24:38 in 68th. The final Hoosier to score was De'Sean Turner in 188th in 24:54. The Hoosiers were finished higher than the remaining 15 ranked programs.
The women's team was paced by Ginther with a time of 21:07 on the 6K course. Chelsea Blanchard placed 89th in 21:15 followed by Caitlin Engel in 105th in a time of 21:20. Rounding out the scoring for IU was Breanne Ehrman (186th, 21:52) and Molly Winters (212th, 22:01).
Members of the IUXC teams will compete on Sunday at Indiana State's Pre National Invitational in Terre Haute, Ind. The competition will take place at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course beginning at 11 a.m. ET.
