SETTING THE SCENE • Indiana bring a two-match win streak into Wednesday's home contest with regional foe Kentucky.
• The Hoosiers have out-scored their opponents 5-1 in their last two games, picking up wins over Butler and Michigan. • Freshman Eriq Zavaleta is on a scoring tear right now with three goals in his last two matches.
• Beginning tonight Indiana will play three of its final five matches at home.
NEWS AND NOTES
• The Hoosiers extended their win streak to two matches with a 4-1 win at Michigan on Oct. 15. • Indiana controlled the run of play early but found itself down 1-0 in the 23rd minute on a goal from the Wolverines' Tyler Arnone.
• Michigan held the lead until the 56th minute when freshman Eriq Zavaleta broke a string of unlucky breaks with a goal by getting in behind the goalkeeper. • Alec Purdie put home the game-winner, his fourth of the season, off a pass from Harrison Petts in the 63rd minute.
• Nikita Kotlov added to the scoring tallying with his second of the season coming in the 78th minute. The play began with a great run from Matt McKain, who took the ball down to the endline before sending in a beautiful cross to Kotlov. The sophomore placed a perfect header for the score. • Zavaleta tallied his second of the night and seventh of the season by chipping the ball in over goalkeeper Adam Grinwis in the 86th minute.
• It is the first career multiple-goal game for Zavaleta. • Indiana finished with 13 shots and put four of its five on-goal looks in the back of the net.
• Indiana also sent a ball off the crossbar and had three go in the net that were called back on an offsides call, all coming before its first goal of the match. • Indiana is now 14-1-1 all-time against the Wolverines since 2000.
• Indiana holds a 34-10 scoring advantage in the series, not counting a 10-1 victory in 1974. • Indiana has six shutouts in 13 matches, with goalkeeper Luis Soffner credited with five of the blank sheets. He has a 0.83 GAA in 1196:43 minutes of play.
• Purdie and Zavaleta are tied for the team lead in goals scored (7) and total points (16). • Defender Tommy Meyer leads the squad in assists with six, while Harrison Petts is one behind with five.
• Indiana's 24 goals have come from seven different players.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
• Kentucky is 8-7-1 on the season and is coming off a 3-1 win over Conference USA foe Tulsa at home on Oct. 12. • The Wildcats have dropped four of their last five matches with losses to UCF (2-1), FIU (1-0), Marshall (2-0) and UAB (3-2).
• Tyler Riggs is the team's leading scorer with 10 goals and five assists (25 points). Matt Lodge has been a playmaker for the Wildcats with a team-best 10 assists to go along with seven goals. • Kentucky is outscoring opponnets 31-27 this season and has been shut out just three times (Creighton, FIU, Marshall).
• Tyler Beadle has appeared in 14 matches, allowing 23 goals for a 1.62 GAA. He is 7-7-0 on the season. • Kentucky has allowed 17 goals in the second half, while also scoring 17. The Wildcats are out-shooing opponents 261-167.
• Indiana and Kentucky have played three common opponents in Dayton, Michigan and Creighton. Both teams went 2-1 against the competition. • Kentucky is led by head coach Ian Collins. He is assisted by Jeff Chaney and Matt Wilkerson.
SERIES HISTORY • Indiana leads the all-time series with Kentucky 21-1-3. Two of the three ties have come in the last three seasons with a 1-1 tie in Bloomingtonin 2008 and a 1-1 tie in Lexington in 2010.
• Indiana's lone loss in the series came in 1995 by a 1-0 score. • The Hoosiers have outscored the Wildcats 91-13 in the series and have shut
out Kentucky 15 times. • Andy Adlard had the lone goal for IU in last season's draw. Indiana posted a 4-0 win in 2007 and a 3-0 win in 2009. • Coaches Yeagley, Maisonneuve and Yarborough faced Kentucky twice during their playing days together at IU, winning both meetings by scores of 6-0 and 6-1.

OH...OVERTIME
• Extra minutes have not been kind to the Hoosiers this season as they are 0-1-2 in overtime contests. • Indiana started the season with a 0-0 double overtime tie at No. 12 Notre Dame on Aug. 27. The Hoosiers were also held without a goal in extra time in a 0-0 double overtime tie at No. 16 St. John's on Sept. 16.
• Their first loss in overtime came on Oct. 5, a 3-2 defeat at the hands of No. 11 Louisville. Indiana held a 2-0 lead until the 73rd minute, when the Cardinals fired off two quick goals to tie the match, then scored the game-winning goal less than five minutes into overtime. • Indiana is 6-7-15 in overtime matches over the last five seasons.
FRESHMAN IMPACT • The Hoosiers are getting key contributions from several players who are donning the cream and crimson for the first time in 2011.
• Forward Eriq Zavaleta is making his case for Big Ten Freshman of the Year honors. Zavaleta is currently tied for the team lead in goals scored with seven. He is tops in the conference in goals and goals per game (0.54) among freshmen. He is tied for the overall Big Ten lead in points with 16 and in goals per game at 1.23. • His seven goals have come on just 29 shots, and he has started all 13 matches. His seven goals are also the most by an IU freshman since Darren Yeagle recorded seven in 2006.
• Freshman midfielder Patrick Doody has appeared in nine games for IU. While he has not yet found the back of the net, Doody has been a key player for Indiana off the bench as they have gone 6-1-2 in his appearances. • Kerel Bradford redshirted in 2010 and is making the most of his first season on the pitch at IU. Bradford has started all 13 matches and has been a key cog for the Hoosiers in the midfield.
NEW TO ME...AND YOU • While they may not be freshmen, these key players are new faces for Hoosier fans in 2011.
• Sophomore A.J. Corrado came to Indiana from SMU in the spring of 2010, and the Hoosier native has had an immediate impact. • Corrado's first career goal came in a 2-0 win at Rutgers on Sept. 18. Appearing in all 13 matches, he also has assisted on the game-winning goal vs. No. 16 Penn State, and had a pair of assists in a 6-0 win over Dayton on Sept. 4.
• Corrado is from Zionsville, Ind. and played alongside sophomore Harrison Petts at Zionsville Community HS. • Sophomore Jamie Vollmer is in his first year at IU after spending 2010 at
Butler. Vollmer has started all 13 matches and has one assist on the season. • The midfielder is best known for his long throw-ins that have incredible accuracy and come in to play in the box each time.
OFFENSIVE DEFENDER
• While known as a lights-out defender and a top professional prospect, senior centerback Tommy Meyer has found his offensive side this season. • Meyer has found himself much more involved in the offense this year and leads the team with six assists.
• Meyer had a pair of assists in the 6-0 win over Dayton on Sept. 4 and added two more in a 2-0 win at Rutgers on Sept. 18. • His fifth assist of the year came on Eriq Zavaleta's goal vs. No. 11 Louisville. He also assisted on Nikita Kotlov's goal in a 4-1 win at Michigan on Oct. 15.
• His six assists rank Meyer second in the Big Ten Conference, as well as his 0.46 assists per game average.
ZAVALETA EARNS NATIONAL HONORS
• Freshman Eriq Zavaleta has earned national honors for the second time this season as he was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week and to the College Soccer News Team of the Week and the Top Drawer Soccer Team of the Week on Oct. 17. • It is the second time this season Zavaleta has been honored by College Soccer News as he was also named to the team of the week on Sept. 5.
• Zavaleta earns the recognition after tallying three goals in a two-match span for the Hoosiers. He netted the game-winning goal in a 1-0 victory over Butler on Oct. 12, and added a pair of scores in a 4-1 win at Michigan on Oct. 15. • The two goals vs. Michigan give Zavaleta his first career multiple-goal game.
• Zavaleta is currently tied for the team lead in goals scored with seven. That is the most goals in a season by a Hoosier freshman since Darren Yeagle also netted seven in 2006.
INDIANA IN THE POLLS
• Indiana moved up five spots to No. 10 in this week's Soccer America poll and up five spots to No. 13 in the NSCAA top 25. • The Hoosiers remain at No. 18 in the College Soccer News top-30. IU moves up three spots to No. 14 in the week 9 Top Drawer Soccer Tournament 48.
NCAA RPI • The first NCAA RPI list came out on Oct. 18 and the Hoosiers lead the Big Ten at No. 19.
• Other Big Ten RPI numbers: Wisconsin 22, Ohio State 63, Northwestern 65, Michigan State 87, Penn State 120, Michigan 149.
DID YOU KNOW?
• Eriq Zavaleta's seven goals is the most by a freshman since Darren Yeagley recorded seven in 2006. • The Hoosiers' 18 shots against Butler was just one off its season high (19-Dayton).
• 54 percent (6/11) of Indiana's starting lineup is either a freshman or sophomore. In addition, the first two players off the bench are also sophomores. • Indiana has 26 assists on 24 goals this season.
• Indiana is out-scoring its opponents 12-4 in the first half. • The Hoosiers have scored 12 goals in the first half and 12 goals in the second half so far this year.
• Twelve different players have scored points for IU this year. • Purdie has topped his previous career best for goals in a season with seven so far this year. He had three in 2010, and five total for his career entering the 2011 season.
• The Hoosiers have scored nine of their 24 goals within the first 30 minutes of the match this season. Five of those have come within the first 20 minutes of play. • Indiana has been limited to single digits in shot attempts twice this season (at St. John's, Creighton).
• The Hoosiers have been held scoreless in the first half for three-straight matches (Creighton, Butler, Michigan). • Indiana has earned seven Big Ten Player of the Week awards so far this season. That is more than the 2009 (1) and 2010 (4) seasons combined.
• Indiana is averaging 2,841 fans per home match this season.
HOOSIERS IN THE BIG TEN (as of 10/17)
• The Hoosiers are at or near the top of the standings in several Big Ten statistical categories. • Alec Purdie and Eriq Zavaleta are tied for the Big Ten lead in points (16) and points per game (1.23). They are also tied for second in goals scored (7) and goals per game (0.54).
• Purdie leads the conference in game-winning goals with four, while Zavaleta is tied for second with two. • Tommy Meyer is second in assists (6) and assists per game (0.46), while Harrison Petts is third with five. A.J. Corrado and Chris Estridge are tied for seventh with three assists each.
