Hoosiers Start Strong in Day One of KU Invitational

LAWRENCE, Kan. - The Indiana women's tennis team wrapped up day one at the KU Invitational hosted by the University of Kansas on Friday boasting a 5-1 record in singles play. The Hoosiers also picked up four doubles victories for the day.
In the singles A draw, Carolyn Chupa defeated Olga Fisher of Marquette to move the semifinals, 2-6, 6-0, 6-3. Alecia Kauss fought hard in the top flight as well before falling in three sets to Ksenia Pronina from Iowa State, 6-2, 2-6, 6-1. In the B draw, Sophie Garre and Katie Klyczek made quick work of their opponents to move to the semis winning in straight sets.
In the C flight, Ariel Beckerman won her first ever collegiate match over Kansas' Karen Hernandez in two sets, 6-2, 6-4. Diana Kyllman was also triumphant in her the D draw with a 6-4, 6-2 win over Suzan Lisenby of UMKC.
In doubles, Chupa and Klyczek teamed up for two doubles victories to move on to the semifinals of the top doubles draw. Garre and Kauss won their opening match, 8-3, before falling in the quarterfinals. Beckerman and Kyllman fell early, but rebounded with a doubles win over Kansas State's Sarah Snodgrass and Petra Chuda.
