LAWRENCE, Kan. - Members of the Indiana women's tennis team wrapped up play at the University of Kansas on Sunday with one last round of singles. Diana Kyllmann won the singles title in her draw and Carolyn Chupa took third place in the top draw on the weekend.
Kyllmann, playing in the E singles draw, fell in the first set, but rebounded nicely to defeat Ana Pimienta of Marquette, 1-6, 6-4, 6-3. Chupa battled Laura Bouet of UMKC and only gave up two games in the win, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophie Garre and Katie Klyczek each earned their way into the B draw title to play each other, but played another opponent instead on Sunday. Klyczek was dominant in her matchup with Kansas' Paulina Los in a straight set win, 6-1, 6-0. Garre lost a heartbreaker to Marquette's Gillian Hush, 6-3, 1-6, 1-0 (10-6). Ariel Beckerman and Alecia Kauss each fell short in their respective singles matches.
"We got what we wanted out of this tournament," head coach Lin Loring said. "Our freshmen and sophomores played seven matches each. They learned a lot and our staff learned a lot about where this team is heading. It was a great experience that will really help us the rest of this semester."
The Hoosiers will wrap up the fall schedule with the Western Michigan Invitational on Nov. 4-6.
