HOOSIERS TAKE ON IOWA | Tournament Central
The Indiana field hockey team (9-7, 2-4) will be the fifth seed in the 2011 Big Ten Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Iowa (14-3, 4-2) on Thursday, Nov. 3 at 10 a.m. ET at the Penn State Field Hockey Complex in State College, Pa. The Hoosiers and the 11th-ranked Hawkeyes faced each other on Oct. 15 with Iowa winning, 4-2, in Iowa City. Brenna Moeljadi netted both goals for IU, converting a penalty corner on each.
Iowa leads the all-time series with Indiana, 11-2. The winner of the opening game on Thursday will advance to place top-seeded Michigan on Friday at 10 a.m. ET.
IU IN THE POSTSEASON
Indiana is 4-11 all-time in the Big Ten Tournament, advancing to the championship game in 2005 and 2009. IU is 0-2 vs. Iowa in the postseason, facing the Hawkeyes in 2007 and 2008. IU is 1-2 in the NCAA Tournament, advancing in 2005 and 2009. In 2005, the Hoosiers moved on to the second round after beating North Carolina, 3-2. IU was eliminated by Wake Forest following a 5-0 loss. In 2009, the Hoosiers faced Wake Forest and lost 2-0.
INDIANA FALLS AT NO. 7 MICHIGAN
IU fell at No. 7 Michigan, 4-2, in the final game of the regular season for the Hoosiers. Audra Heilman and Jaclyn Zamudio netted IU's two goals. Heilman put the Hoosiers on the board in the 16th minute as she took a shot from the center of the circle to give IU a 1-0 lead. The Wolverines matched it with a goal from Emy Guttman in the 22nd minute to take a 1-1 tie into the break. Michigan quickly broke the tie in the second half, scoring back-to-back goals in the 36th and 52nd minutes. The Hoosiers responded with a goal from Zamudio in the 60th minute as she tipped in a shot from Brenna Moeljadi, cutting Michigan's lead to 3-2. However, the Wolverines sealed the win on a goal in the 66th minute for the 4-2 victory.
MOELJADI NAMED NFHCA SENIOR ALL-STAR
Brenna Moeljadi has been selected to play in the 2011 National Field Hockey Coaches Association (NFHCA) Senior All-Star game on Saturday, Nov. 19, hosted by Louisville, at 3 p.m. ET. Moeljadi, one of three Big Ten players selected, will join 37 seniors from various schools in a series of four 25 minute pieces with the U.S. Women's National Team.
TEAM ASSIST-ANT
Senior forward Katie Griswold became IU's single-season assists record holder with an assist at Iowa on Oct. 15 and leads the Hoosiers with 12 on the season. She ranks third in the Big Ten and is second on the Indiana career list at 27, nine behind record-holder Meredith Brown (2004-07).
RECORD WATCH
Morgan Fleetwood has made her mark in the IU record book and continues to take over several categories. Heading into the postseason, Fleetwood ranks second in career goals with 30 (Lydia Schrott-41, 2003-06), second in career game-winning goals with eight (Schrott-14), second in single-season game-winning goals with four (Schrott-6, 2005) and third in single-season goals with 11 (Schrott-17, 2005).
RANKING THE B1G
All seven Big Ten teams are among the top 35 in this week's NCAA RPI report, with Indiana ranking No. 23. Michigan leads the league at No. 7, with Penn State (No. 9), Ohio State (No. 10), Iowa (No. 13), Northwestern (No. 24) and Michigan State (No. 33) following.
100 AND COUNTING
Head coach Amy Robertson tallied her 100th career win as the Hoosiers beat Ball State, 4-0, on Saturday, Sept. 3. In her 12th season at Indiana, Robertson owns a 106-113 mark.
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• Morgan Fleetwood became IU's career shots leader in Indiana's win over Northwestern. Fleetwood's third shot broke the record of 178 set by Olympian Kayla Bashore (2001-05). Her career tally is now 207.
• Brenna Moeljadi became IU's career defensive saves leader on Sept. 4 vs. Missouri State and heads into the postseason with 10. She has tallied four in back-to-back seasons, which ranks second to Olympian Kayla Bashore (5, 2003).
• Fleetwood, Katie Griswold and Moeljadi are among Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2011 season, announced by the league on Aug. 24.
• Griswold and Moeljadi are the team captains for the 2011 squad.
• The Hoosiers welcomed eight new faces, including seven freshmen to the 2011 roster.
• IU boasts a pair of international student-athletes in Viki Green (Belfast, Northern Ireland) and Amanda Bennison (Pynton, England).
