TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Indiana men's cross country team placed seventh with 257 points at the NCAA Championships for the second-consecutive season on Monday at the LaVern Gibson Championship Course. Andy Bayer earned All-America honors, the second Hoosier in as many years and 26th overall in program history, placing 39th overall to pace the Hoosiers.
IU's seventh-place finish equals last year's mark, which was the best finish for the program since 1977. Indiana's back-to-back top-10 finishes are the program's first since the 1978 and 1979 seasons, when the Hoosiers placed eighth both years.
Bayer crossed the line in a time of 30:11.5 in the men's 10K race. Ben Hubers just missed earning an All-American spot placing 45th overall, clocking in at 30:19.0. Terre Haute native Zach Mayhew was the third Hoosier to finish coming in the 64th position in 30:30.7. Andrew Poore took 70th place overall crossing the line in 30:33.5. Rounding out the Hoosier scorers was Adrien Dannemiller who came in 119th overall and had a time of 30:57.9.
The final two Hoosier runners were De'Sean Turner and Andy Weatherford. Turner placed 147th in a time of 31:10.3 and Weatherford crossed the finish in 171st in 31:25.7.
In the women's race, IU's Samantha Ginther participated as an individual qualifier. Ginther clocked in at 21:35.4 and placed 173rd overall.
