BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University sophomore midfielder Harrison Petts was named to the Capital One Academic All-District team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Friday.
In order to qualify for nomination a student-athlete must have been at their institution at least one year and reached sophomore athletic eligibility, carry a cumulative GPA of 3.3 or higher, and have participated in at least 50 percent of a team's games. Petts is one of just three Big Ten student-athletes to earn the award.
Petts has started all 17 games this season and is tied for the team lead and ranks tied for second in the Big Ten in assists with six. He had a pair of assists in a 6-0 win over Dayton and a 4-1 win at Michigan, while also contributing assists on goals vs. Louisville and Evansville.
As a freshman Petts started all 19 matches played and was a unanimous selection to the Big Ten All-Freshman team. His three goals and five assists also earned him a spot on the Top Drawer Soccer All-Rookie second team, Soccer America All-Freshman second team and College Soccer News All-Freshman second team.
Petts will now advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration. That team will be announced on December 1.
