Hoosiers Close Fall Season 10th at Challenge at Onion Creek

AUSTIN, Texas - The Indiana women's golf team closed its fall season with a 10th-place finish at the Challenge at Onion Creek Tuesday at Onion Creek Golf Club in Austin, Texas.
Texas Tech led from start to finish, tallying a score of 874. Michigan and Texas-San Antonio tied for second at 878, followed by Arkansas-Little Rock (885) and Texas State (886). The Hoosiers posted a final round of 308 to finish with a score of 913 (300-305-308).
"It was one of those days where not a lot went our way," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We had some good holes but again when they made mistakes they proved to be very costly.
"As we head into the offseason and prepare for the spring we will spend time evaluating and working on scoring. That will be the focus for the off-season."
Junior Rosie Davies was the top Hoosier finisher, tying for 27th with a16-over tally of 226 (80-72-74). Davies had a tournament-best four birdies for the Hoosiers in Tuesday's final round, knocking strokes off her total on holes 14, 16, 7 and 10. She also hit pars on seven of the remaining 14 holes.
Freshman Elizabeth Tong finished her first fall season at Indiana tied for 42nd with a 20-over 230 (73-79-78). Tong was 4-over after four holes but came back with a par on 16 and birdies on 17 and 18. She would shoot par or better on six of the remaining 11 holes.
Junior Kate Coons posted a 76 on Sunday to finish tied for 47th at 232 (81-75-76). Coons was one of two Hoosiers to not tally a double bogey or worse on the day, hitting pars on 10 of 18 holes and adding a birdie on the par-5 18th hole.
Junior Pamela Burneski was one stroke back from Coons, tying for 50th at 233 (79-74-80). Burneski tallied three birdies over her final 15 holes, shooting a two on the par-3 second hole, a three on the par-4 ninth hole and a two on the par-3 11th hole. Burneski was sitting at 6 over with one hole remaining before getting tripped up with a quadruple bogey on 12.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Sophie Hayashi tied for 56th at 236 (79-77-80). Hayashi tallied par on eight of 18 holes for a 10-over tally.
Junior Kristtini Cain finished tied for 60th at 239 (73-83-83). Cain tallied par on six holes for the round but recorded a score of six over on holes one through five.
