BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Christian Watford was named Co-Big Ten Player of the Week after leading the Indiana men's basketball team to a 73-72 win over top-ranked Kentucky on Saturday, Dec. 10 in Assembly Hall.
Watford nailed the game-winning 3-pointer at the buzzer to give the Hoosiers a 9-0 start to the season. He scored 17 of his team-high 20 points in the second half and tied a career-high when he sank 4-of-6 from the 3-point line. He also added five rebounds, an assist and a steal. He shot 8-of-15 from the field overall.
Saturday's win was Indiana's first over a No. 1 team since beating Duke in the 2002 regional semifinal in Lexington.
Watford shares this week's honor with Michigan State's Draymond Green.
