BLOOMINGTON, Ind. -
Shae Fournier is entering her sophomore season with the Hoosiers after making an immediate impact during her rookie campaign. Fournier racked up season totals of 61 goals, 39 assists, 88 steals and 51 field blocks in 2011.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada native earned numerous accolades following her productive freshman season, including being named to the CWPA Western Division All-Conference Second Team and earning Western Division Rookie of the Year honors. She collected a conference record 10 weekly awards and became the first player in league history to earn all three awards (Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Rookie of the Week) during a single-season.
Fournier sat down with IUHoosiers.com to discuss a wide-range of topics as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
On last season:
"I didn't really have many expectations. I expected it to be different and I think it was definitely very different from home. We had a really successful year and hopefully we can replicate that."
On last summer:
"Basically I trained all summer and I played in some small tournaments with the national team. It was good, but I got injured before Worlds. I was supposed to go, but didn't get to."
On her main focus during those summer months:
"The summer was full of a lot of technical training. I changed my shot. I changed my passing. I changed basically technically how I do everything. That was my big focus this summer."
On the key this season with a younger team:
"I think with such a new team the key is going to be how the freshman take things. It's going to be how they decide to show up to games and how seriously they take their training. It will be important for them to get into the same mindset as the upperclassmen."
On her hobbies away from the pool:
"I would have to say shopping. I like to shop and read."
On her choice of three people she would like to have dinner with:
"My granny because she's my favorite person in the world. I'd go with Leonardo DiCaprio. I like him a lot. The third would be my mom."
On her favorite hangout spot on campus:
"The Union. You can basically do anything you want. I like it a lot. Every time I'm there I run into someone I know."
On what's on her iPod:
"Drake, Rihanna, and then random country songs."
