Hoosiers Wrap Day 1 of Ohio State Winter Invitational

COLUMBUS, Ohio - NCAA provisional times from Andrew Taylor, Bryant Honsa and Alex Kotliarsky in the 500 freestyle highlighted the Indiana men's swimming team's first day of competition at the two-day Ohio State Winter Invitational at the McCorkle Aquatic Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio.
Taylor knocked four seconds off his season best in the 500 free with a time of 4:23.58 in the prelims. He elected not to swim in the evening's championship final. Honsa and Kotliarsky picked up their NCAA B cuts in the evening final with Honsa taking third in 4:27.75, and Kotliarsky fourth in 4:27.82. Also competing in the evening final were Bart Ginocchio (6th- 4:30.50), Michael Mohler (9th- 4:33.04) and Ryan Downey (10th- 4:38.25).
Jon Hueni finished second in the 100 butterfly final with a time of 49.59. He went 49.45 in the morning session. Mohler was fourth in the 400 individual medley prelims (4:07.96) and Nicholas Schwab was sixth (4:20.00).
Austin Steel was victorious in the 100 backstroke (49.25), while Daniel Kanorr took third (49.52). Kanorr posted an NCAA B cut of 48.83 in the morning prelims.
Jackson Davidson placed eighth in the 100 breaststroke (1:00.27), with Schwab ninth in the morning session (1:04.54). Honsa and Kanorr swam the prelims of the 100 freestyle with Honsa posting a time of 46.23 and Kanorr finishing in 46.27.
Also taking part in the meet is women's swimmer Kristen Mitsch. Mitsch took sixth in the 100 free in a time of 54.09.
