THE VENUE
Wexford Golf Club, the championship course at Wexford Plantation, was designed by William Byrd. The course is a par-72 and plays at 6,828 yards from the back tees.
THE FIELD
The Hoosiers are among a field of 14 teams that includes Davidson, Depaul, Elon, Francis Marion, Furman, Ohio, Presbyterian, Richmond, Samford, UConn, USC-Aiken, Western Carolina, and William & Mary. Indiana is the highest rated team in both rankings among the teams competing at Wexford.
HOT HOOSIERS
Indiana boasts a trio of players (Erdy, Wright, and Mills) with 2010-11 stroke averages of less than 73 per round heading into the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate, as well as two (Peaper and Ziedonis) under 75.
Erdy currently has a 73.40 career stroke average, which would be third in the Indiana all-time record book. Wright's 73.54 career average is good for fifth on the list.
Mills is on pace for the second best freshman season scoring average in school history with a 72.93. Former Hoosier great Jorge Campillo holds the top freshman mark with a 72.67 average in 2006.
WEEK IN REVIEW
Indiana had a strong showing at the 2011 Big Ten Match Play Championship last weekend at the Champions Course at PGA National Resort. The Hoosiers finished runner-up to defending champion Northwestern after a stellar run to the finals.
Indiana, competing as the No. 7 seed, opened with a dominant 6-0 victory over No. 10 seed Wisconsin in the first round. The Hoosiers followed up with an impressive 4-2 win against No. 2 seed Iowa in the quarterfinals and a 3-3 tiebreaker triumph over No. 3 seed Ohio State in the semifinals. Indiana led early on against Northwestern in the finale, but ultimately lost 4-2.
Mills and Ziedonis both finished the event with a perfect 4-0 record to lead the Hoosiers. Erdy and Peaper each posted a 2-2 mark for Indiana.
