Downing Named Big Ten's Freshman of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana catcher Ty Downing claimed the Big Ten's Freshman of the Week honor on Monday (Feb. 28) after helping the Hoosiers to a 2-1 record at the Kleberg Bank Classic in Corpus Christi, Texas, including a 3-1 victory over nationally ranked Connecticut.

Downing batted .444 (4-for-9), including a 3-for-4 performance with a homer and two RBI in the tournament's opener on Friday. He reached base at a .500 clip and slugged .778 for an OPS of 1.278. The Bowling Green, Ky., native also scored three runs over the weekend and went 1-for-2 with an RBI in the finale on Sunday.
