BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - A pair of Hoosiers have earned Western Division weekly honors from the CWPA for their play at the Rodeo Tournament in Santa Clara, Calif., the conference office announced on Tuesday. Freshman Shae Fournier was named Co-Player of the Week and Rookie of the Week, while junior Jakie Köhli collected Defensive Player of the Week honors.
Fournier has earned Rookie of the Week during all three weekends the Hoosiers have been in action and is the fourth female athlete in league history to receive that award along with the Player of the Week honor in the same week. She is the first Western Division player to accomplish that feat.
Fournier put together impressive totals of six goals, five assists, 11 steals, and two earned exclusions during Indiana's three-game slate at the Rodeo.
The Winnipeg, Man. native began the weekend with one goal, two assists, and three steals in a loss to No. 19 Pacific, to go along with a field block and an earned kick-out. She followed it up with a dominant performance in a 13-3 win against Cal State Monterey Bay, racking up career-highs of seven steals and three assists, while also notching two goals and an earned exclusion.
Fournier rounded out the trip with her first collegiate hat trick in a 9-3 win against Santa Clara. She also registered a steal and a field block against the Broncos.
Köhli finished the weekend with 10 steals and a field block, to go along with four goals, three assists, and six earned kick-outs.
The junior collected five steals and a field block against Pacific, while also recording an earned exclusion. She picked up a trio of steals in the win against CSUMB. Köhli also scored a pair of goals and had an assist and an earned exclusion in that contest.
Köhli ended the tournament with her third consecutive multi-steal performance, notching two takeaways, as well as two goals, two assists, and four earned exclusions in the win against Santa Clara.
