BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's basketball program continues its efforts to give back to the Bloomington community. Recently, freshman Simone Deloach has been helping at the Shalom Community Center and her classmate Kristiana Stauere visited Highland Park Elementary School.
Deloach has been assisting at the Shalom Community Center in downtown Bloomington on Kirkwood Avenue as she closes the kitchen after meals are served and helps with cleaning. The Center is a safe, daytime resource center for people experiencing homelessness and poverty. Being a nonprofit resource center, the Shalom Community Center delivers social services directly and in coalition with other agencies in a respectable, secure environment.
On March 11, Stauere participated in the National Education Association's (NEA) Read Across America program with a kindergarten class at Highland Park. She read to the class during her visit to the school. The NEA's Read Across America is an annual reading motivation and awareness program that calls for every child in every community to celebrate reading in conjunction with the birthday of the beloved children's author, Dr. Seuss, which is on March 2.
