Hoosiers Notch Two Wins on Saturday

The No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team defeated Brown and Harvard on Saturday in College Park, Md. to improve to 21-11 (3-2 CWPA West) on the season. The Hoosiers downed Brown, 11-6, and followed it up with a 14-8 victory over Harvard in the evening.

No. 13 Indiana vs. Brown (Recap)
The No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team reeled off three goals in the opening two and a half minutes on their way to an 11-6 victory over Brown in College Park, Md. The win marks the fourth straight season that the Hoosiers have reached 20-plus victories, a feat the Cream and Crimson have achieved in 12 of 14 seasons.
"We did the things that we needed to do to get the job done out there," said Indiana head coach Barry King. "I thought we were a little sluggish at times, but we executed down the stretch."
Kelsey Campbell and Jakie Köhli led the Hoosiers with three goals apiece. Lauren Wyckoff notched a pair of goals, while Shae Fournier, Meghan Lappan, and Nicole Redder had one each.
Cassie Wyckoff recorded eight saves and two steals from the cage. The Los Altos, Calif. native moved to second on the Indiana all-time saves list with 670 for her career.
The Hoosiers got off to a quick start offensively, as Fournier connected from deep after an assist by Redder just 45 seconds into the action. Campbell then added back-to-back goals, with assists by Redder and (Lauren) Wyckoff to give Indiana the early 3-0 lead.
Brown got their first score of the game during a power play at the 5:03 mark of the opening period to pull within two.
Minutes later, Wyckoff drew an ordinary foul and quickly dished to Köhli for the open shot and score. Wyckoff finished the game with a career-high-tying four assists, a feat she has accomplished twice in the last five games.
Brown and Indiana would exchange goals in the final minute of the opening stanza, with Redder converting for the Hoosiers to make it a 5-2 IU lead heading into the second period.
The second quarter was a struggle for both teams on the offensive end, as the two squads notched just one score apiece. Campbell completed her hat trick with 1:27 to play in the period after a (Lauren) Wyckoff assist to give the Hoosiers a 6-3 lead at the break.
Campbell returned the favor to Wyckoff to open the third quarter, delivering a pass to the post that Wyckoff turned into a score to give Indiana a 7-3 lead.
Brown responded with a two-goal run to cut the Hoosier lead to two with 2:29 left in the third, but Lappan came back with shot that was deflected by the Brown goalkeeper and inched past the goal line for the score to make it 8-5 heading into the fourth.
The Hoosiers opened the final period with a three-goal flurry to put the game out of reach, with two from Köhli and one from Wyckoff.
Brown added a final goal with 1:57 to play to cut the final deficit to five, 11-6.
Indiana vs. Harvard Recap
The Indiana Hoosiers launched an eight-goal onslaught in the second half and locked down Harvard to three scores in the game's final 16 minutes to break open a 14-8 victory over the Crimson in the second game of the day in College Park, Md.
"We really got things done on the offensive end," said head coach Barry King. "I thought we dictated the flow of the game in the second half and that was a key for us."
Nicole Redder led the charge on the offensive end, finishing with four goals. Jakie Köhli had her second straight hat trick with each coming in the fourth quarter. Kara Butler and Lauren Wyckoff converted a pair of goals for the Hoosiers, while Kelsey Campbell, Kym King, and Amanda Redfern chipped in one each.
Cassie Wyckoff made eight saves for the second straight game, while grabbing a trio of steals and dishing out an assist in a complete 32 minutes of action.
Indiana led 4-1 after the first period, before Harvard came back with a solid four-goal second stanza to bring the deficit to one at the half.
The Hoosiers busted the contest wide open in the first three and half minutes of the third quarter after a goal by (Lauren) Wyckoff and two from Redder to extend the lead to 9-5. Harvard responded with its only third period goal at the 5:10 mark, but Butler answered with a put-back goal to make it 10-6 heading into the fourth.
Köhli put on an offensive clinic during a three minute span in the fourth quarter, reeling off three straight scores to extend the Indiana lead to seven.
Harvard put together a two-goal run to make it 13-8 with under a minute to play.
Kym King put the finishing touches on the win with a power play goal after an assist by Katie Black.
The Hoosiers are back in action at George Washington on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
