Hoosiers Finish Fifth at Illini Spring Classic

URBANA, Ill. - The Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team (No. 35 Golfweek-Sagarin/No. 35 Golfstat) posted an 11-over par 299 in the final round on Sunday to finish in fifth at the Illini Spring Classic at Stone Creek Golf Club. The Cream and Crimson finished with a 25-over 601 in the event, which was shortened to two rounds after rain on Saturday.
Akron won the team title with a 7-over 583, followed by Illinois (593), Northwestern (600), and Illinois State (600). William Sjaichudin of Purdue captured individual medalist honors with a 1-under 143.
The Hoosiers were led by top-20 finishes from David Mills and Chase Wright. Mills put together a 2-over 74 for the second straight day to finish with a 4-over 148 and tie for 13th. Wright's final round was the lowest score from an Indiana player all weekend, as the Muncie, Ind. native posted an even-par 72 (77-72---149) to tie for 18th. Wright's final round included an eagle on the par-4 14th.
David Erdy recorded a 4-over 76 (76-76---152) in the final round for a tie for 31st, while Brant Peaper tied for 38th after a final round score of 6-over 78 (75-78---153).
Corey Ziedonis fired a 5-over 77 (82-77---159) on Sunday and finished in a tie for 61st.
The Hoosiers will be back on the links on April 29-May 1 at the Big Ten Championship at Kampen Golf Course in West Lafayette, Ind.
