Kohli, Fournier Collect CWPA Weekly Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Junior Jakie Köhli and freshman Shae Fournier garnered a pair of CWPA Western Division weekly awards after helping lead the No. 13 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team to three wins over conference foes during the past weekend, the conference office announced on Tuesday. Köhli was named the division's Defensive Player of the Week, while Fournier notched the Rookie of the Week honor.
Köhli was a devastating force on the defensive end throughout the weekend for the Hoosiers, racking up a team-high 17 steals in the three wins. Köhli also made a pair of field blocks over the weekend, to go along with nine goals, four assists, and an earned exclusion.
Köhli picked up a team-high five steals in an 11-6 win over Brown on Saturday, while also recording three goals.
In the 14-8 win against Harvard, the junior had four steals and two field blocks on the defensive end and added three goals and two assists.
Against George Washington, Köhli used her dynamic length to punish the Colonials on the perimeter with deflections and steals throughout the contest that led to scoring chances on the offensive end. She collected a career-best eight steals in the win. Köhli also recorded her third straight hat trick, dished out two assists, and earned an exclusion.
Köhli leads the Hoosiers with 54 goals on the year, to go along with 27 assists, 75 steals, 18 field blocks, and 26 earned exclusions. Köhli has recorded three or more steals in 12 contests during the 2011 season. She also has amassed 209 career steals, good for fifth on the Indiana all-time list.
The award marks the second weekly honor of the season for Kohli as she previously earned the Western Division Defensive Player of the Week award on February 28.
Fournier recorded totals of five goals, three assists, seven steals, and a team-high five field blocks during the three-game stretch on her way to a conference record eighth weekly award in her first collegiate season.
Fournier had one goal, to go along with a steal and three field blocks against Brown. She followed up with two assists and a team-high five steals in the win over Harvard.
Fournier capped the weekend off with a career-high-tying four goals, a feat she has accomplished on four occasions this season, in the victory at George Washington. She also added an assist, a steal, and two field blocks against the Colonials.
Fournier has season totals of 51 goals, 35 assists, 75 steals, a team-high 34 field blocks, and 15 earned kick-outs. The freshman has 16 multi-goal games in 2011, as well as 21 contests with two or more steals.
