QUOTING COACH KING...
On the feeling of advancing to NCAA's:
"It's a real satisfaction knowing that the women were rewarded for the work that they put in and for their dedication to the purpose from the minute they had lost in the championship the year before to that particular time was incredibly satisfying."
On the opening round matchup with UCLA:
"I love our draw. We're really looking forward to a second chance against UCLA. I thought we were really competitive with them and not necessarily playing our best water polo in February. So to have that chance at a rematch on the big stage with everything at stake is real exciting for us."
CWPA CHAMPIONSHIP RUN
The Hoosiers captured the second CWPA Eastern Championship in program history on May 1 with a 5-3 victory against then-No. 6 ranked Michigan, along with the school's second NCAA Championship bid. Indiana held the Wolverines to their lowest scoring output of the 2011 season. Indiana's path to the title began with a quarterfinal win against Harvard, 7-6, and a 10-9 triumph over No. 12 ranked Hartwick in the semis.
TOP TEN
Indiana jumped to No. 10 in the Varsity Top 20 following the Eastern Championship triumph. The Hoosiers are No. 1 in the CWPA Poll. The No. 10 national ranking is the highest for the Hoosiers since the 2005 season.
SURGING HOOSIERS
Indiana began the season with a 2-8 record after clashing with six of the nation's top-10 teams up to that point. The Cream and Crimson have since rattled off 23 wins in 26 contests, including victories over five teams currently ranked among the top-16 in the country.
UCLA REMATCH
Indiana encountered UCLA at the 2011 Stanford Invitational and fell 9-4 after battling the Bruins to a two-goal deficit with under four minutes to play in the fourth period before giving up a late run.
ACCESS DENIED
Cassie Wyckoff put together a dominating performance between the pipes in the CWPA finale against Michigan, racking up 14 saves and setting an IU single-season saves record in the process. Wyckoff passed Kate Toole's 311 during the first half against the Wolverines. She has 322 stops this season and 726 for her career. Wyckoff earned Tournament MVP honors after averaging 13.68 saves over the three-game slate.
SWAT TEAM
Shae Fournier and Jakie Köhli played a key role down the stretch of the Eastern Championship with timely field blocks and steals. Fournier had a team-high nine field blocks throughout the weekend, to go along with four steals. Köhli registered a team-high nine steals and five field blocks. The tandem has combined for 163 steals and 66 field blocks this season.
WINNING TIME
Indiana's 25 wins is the third-most in a single-season by an IU squad. The school record for wins in a season is 26 by the 1998 and 2003 teams. The Hoosiers have eclipsed the 20-win plateau for the fourth consecutive season and the 12th time in 14 campaigns.
2003 NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP
The Hoosiers' last trip to the NCAA Championship was in 2003 after the squad defeated George Washington, Princeton, and Brown to win their first CWPA Eastern title. The NCAA Championship was a four-team event at that time and the Hoosiers lost to Stanford, 13-2, and Loyola Marymount, 5-2, in La Jolla, Calif.
