BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana wrestling team was named the 2011 CHAMPS Challenge winners after recording a final year-end score of 693 points, beating out the IU rowing team, who won the last three challenges.
"The team is very pleased to have won the Champs Challenge," said head coach Duane Goldman. "They have worked hard for several years for this achievement only to fall short. This year their resolve was unbelievable, and the many ways that they served was inspiring. I am very proud of their efforts."
Indiana University President Michael A. McRobbie and First Lady Laurie Burns McRobbie, along with IU Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Fred Glass honored the team as a recent banquet.
The CHAMPS Challenge is a competition between all Indiana University varsity athletics teams designed to encourage participation in the CHAMPS/Life Skills programs, attendance at other teams' events, and community service while awarding academic success. It encourages student-athletes to become involved among their peers and within the campus community. All student-athletes are eligible to compete in the Challenge. Points are earned by attending events and programs, along with excelling academically.
