BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University women's golfer Kristtini Cain was crowned the Indiana Women's Golf Association Match Play champion on Wednesday at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
Cain, who will be a senior at IU this fall, defeated Amy Thompson in Wednesday's championship match in 19 holes.
Her tournament began with a 3-over 75 in the day one qualifying round, which put her tied for fifth overall. Her round of 16 match pitted her against Emily Dixon, whom she defeated 2 and 1. In the round of 8 she defeated Kristi O'Brien 7 and 5, before facing Ashley Kees in the semifinals and coming away with a 6 and 4 victory.
Cain recently competed her first season at Indiana after coming to the Hoosiers from Ball State. As a junior she finished second on the team in stroke average (77.33) and had two top-25 finishes, including finishing tied for 15th at the Lady Northern Invitational. Her low round of the season came in the Challenge at Onion Creek where she shot a 1-under 71 in the second round of play and went on to finish tied for 16th. At her first Big Ten Championship this past April she finished 26th.
