Hubers 2nd in Canada, Beckwith Advances in Oregon

EUGENE, Ore. & CALGARY, Alberta - Hoosiers were competing for national titles in the US and in Canada on Friday. In Canada, Ben Hubers took a runner-up finish in the 5,000 meters, and in Oregon, Molly Beckwith inched closer to earning a spot on the World Championships team in the 800.
Hubers ran a time of 14:11.07, taking the silver medal a the Canadian National Championships. He finished only behind professional Reid Coolsaet, who finishes less than 1.5 seconds ahead of Hubers.
Beckwith earned her way into the finals of the women's senior 800 meters, clocking a time of 2:02.19 for third in her heat of the semis. She will race to earn a spot on the IAAF World Championships team in Daegu, South Korea.
In Canada, Emma Kimoto took seventh in the women's high jump, clearing 1.70m (5-7). The event winner was Jillian Drouin, sister of IU standout, Derek Drouin.
Hale O'Herren, a true freshman who redshirted the entire 2010-11 campaign, ran the 13th best time in the prelims of the junior 1,500 meters, finishing in 3:57.39. He did not advance, but finished faster than one qualifier from a slower heat.
Sarah Pease wrapped up her career as a Hoosier with a time of 10:15.18 in the senior women's 3,000m steeplechase for 23rd place. Pease finishes her career as the most accomplished female steepler in IU history.
