Poore, Turner Finish Top Ten, Norton in Fourth

EUGENE, Ore. - Indiana got top-10 finishes from Andrew Poore and De'Sean Turner in the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase and solid early performances from alums Abbie (Stechschulte) Norton in the heptathlon and Danielle Carruthers in the 100m hurdles on day three at the USA Track and Field Championships.
Poore finished seventh in the steeplechase with a time of 8:43.95 to finish as the top collegian. Turner clocked a time of 8:46.46 for 10th. The pair finished off a season that saw them earn All-America honors in the event and place first and second at the Big Ten meet for the second-straight year.
Carruthers clocked a time of 12.67 to win her heat of the hurdles and advance with the second-best preliminary time. Carruthers, an NCAA runner-up for the Hoosiers, will run in semifinals at 3:45 p.m. ET on Sunday.
Norton clocked a time of 14.25 seconds in the 100 hurdles, cleared 1.75m (5-8.75) in the high jump, launched a heave of 13.82m (45-4.25) in the shot put and finished in 24.94 in the 200 meters to record a first day score of 3,533. The former Hoosier and current IU assistant coach is in fourth after day one and is only 173 points out of the lead and 104 points out of the top three. She will compete in the final three events of the heptathlon on Sunday.
