Local Soccer Standout Vollmer Transfers to IU

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Westfield (Ind.) High School graduate Jamie Vollmer has transferred to Indiana University and will play soccer for the Hoosiers this fall.
Vollmer, who is entering his sophomore year, comes to IU from Butler University where he appeared in 19 matches in 2010, making four starts for the Bulldogs as they compiled a 16-1-3 record.
"We are very excited to have Jamie on board this fall," said head coach Todd Yeagley. "Jamie brings winning qualities to our program and I expect him make an immediate impact. Jamie's athleticism and versatility will strengthen our squad at the outside back and wide midfield positions."
In his 19 appearances, the defender tallied two assists while taking six shots, two of which were on frame. Prior to beginning his collegiate career, Vollmer was a two-time All-State selection and was named to the Noblesville Ledger All-Hamilton County teams in 2007, 2008 and 2009, earning the publications' Player of the Year award in 2009.
A two-time All-Conference and All-District selection in 2008 and 2009, Vollmer was also an Academic All-State honoree as a junior and senior.
Vollmer played his club soccer with Carmel United, winning the USSF Academy U16 National Championship in 2008 and the U18 crown in 2009. He was also a member of the ODP Indiana state teams in 2006 and 2007.
The Hoosiers are less than two months away from the start of the 2011 season, beginning with a trip to Notre Dame on August 27.
