BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - After leading the Indiana Field Hockey team to a season-opening win with two goals on Friday, Morgan Fleetwood scored two more on Sunday, Aug. 28, to lead the Hoosiers to a 3-2 win over No. 15 Duke in Bloomington. Fleetwood netted the first goal for IU in the 34th minute and scored the game-winner in the 83rd minute. Brooke Borneman also scored a goal for IU in the 48th minute.
The Hoosiers (2-0) and Blue Devils (1-1) played an aggressive first half that went scoreless until the 34th minute when Fleetwood took a pass from Katie Griswold in the far right corner of the field and knocked it into the left corner of the cage to put Indiana on top 1-0. That score stuck through the break and until the 48th minute when Borneman scored on a penalty corner from left side of the circle, with the assist going to Audra Heilman, giving IU a 2-0 lead.
However, Duke fought back and cut the Hoosiers' lead in half when Tara Jennings netted a goal off a penalty corner in the 53rd minute. The Blue Devils kept pushing and evened the score at 2-2 in the 67th minute as Devon Gagliardi converted a corner to send the game into overtime.
Overtime started with Duke earning back-to-back corners, but failing to convert. In the 83rd minute, the Hoosiers earned a corner with Fleetwood scoring the game-winner from the top of the circle with Borneman and Brenna Moeljadi picking up the assists.
Fleetwood took two shots, both resulting in a goal. Borneman took two shots on goal resulting in one goal. Moeljadi also took two shots on goal and tallied one assist and one defensive save. Borneman, along with Griswold, recorded one assist.
Viki Green started in goal for Indiana and tallied four saves in 82:27 minutes.
Duke out shot Indiana, 19-6, and earned nine corners to the Hoosiers' five.
Indiana returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 3, when it plays host to Ball State at 12 p.m. ET at the IU Field Hockey Complex in Bloomington.
