Cox Named Co-Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball's Caitlin Cox is the Big Ten's Co-Defensive Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday. The senior libero broke IU's all-time record for digs this weekend and earned tournament MVP honors at the Hoosier Classic. She broke the record with a career-high 27 digs in IU's 3-1 win over Gonzaga on Friday night. The award is the second of her career.
Head Coach Sherry Dunbar likes what she has seen from Cox so far in her senior season.
"I'm proud of Caitlin for earning co-defensive player of the week honors," said Dunbar. "She has started this season making a statement with her play and her leadership, and I like where she's at right now. I look for great things from her this season."
The senior libero from Springport, Ind., recorded 61 digs on the weekend and with her 17th, surpassed Juli Pierce for the all-time mark with the 1,525th dig of her career. She has 1,569 in her career after the weekend. In the Gonzaga match, she matched her career high with 27 digs, including 10 in the first set. Cox played a huge role on the weekend, helping IU hold its three opponents to just a .124 hitting percentage. Cox played a big role in IU's defensive successes, leading the Hoosiers in digs in every set on the weekend. Coxadded 11 assists, three aces and a kill on the weekend.
