Hoosiers Travel to Mary Fossum Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana University women's golf team will face its first big test of the 2011-12 season as it travels to East Lansing, Mich. for the Mary Fossum Invitational at the Forest Akers Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State.
The 11-team field features Eastern Michigan, Ferris State, James Madison, Kent State, Miami, Michigan, Michigan State, Oakland, Ohio State, Toledo and the Hoosiers. The teams will play 36 holes on Saturday, Sept. 17, followed by an 18-hole round on Sunday, Sept. 18.
Junior Rosie Davies, senior Kristtini Cain, sophomore Sophie Hayashi, junior Kate Coons and junior Pamela Burneski make up the travel squad for the Hoosiers. Davies is coming off her first-ever collegiate individual title, earning top honors with identical rounds of 72 at the 36-hole IU Fall Kickoff last weekend.
Indiana came back from two strokes down after round one to win the tournament with a score of 602 (305-297).
Cain was the only Hoosier to shoot under par at the event, posting a 71 in the final round to finish in a tie for second. Coons was also a top-10 finisher, placing tied for ninth with a score of 155 (78-77). Burneski also finished in a tie for ninth with rounds of 75 and 80. Hayashi placed tied for 14th with scores of 79 and 81.
