WEEKEND INFO
No. 13 Indiana will hit the road and take on No. 20 Ohio State in a Big Ten match-up on Friday, Sept. 30 at 3 p.m. ET in Columbus. The Hoosiers are 1-4 when playing the Buckeyes in Columbus.
TAKING IT ON THE ROAD
After cruising to a 4-1 win over then-No. 15 Northwestern in its Big Ten opener, No. 13 Indiana travels to No. 20 Ohio State for a 3 p.m. ET game on Friday, Sept. 30. The Buckeyes (6-5, 1-0) lead the all-time series vs. the Hoosiers, 8-5, winning the last four meetings. In 2010, Ohio State topped IU in Bloomington, 4-1. Ohio State is led by Berta Queralt with eight goals and 18 points on the year.
WINNING WAYS
IU has opened the 2011 season 7-2, its best start since opening the 2006 season, 11-1. The Hoosiers' best start to a season was a 13-1 mark during 2005 which resulted in Indiana finishing in second in the Big Ten standings and making a trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament.
HOOSIERS TOP WILDCATS, 4-1
Four Hoosiers netted goals as Indiana beat Northwestern, 4-1, in Bloomington on Friday, Sept. 23. Katie Griswold, Jaclyn Zamudio, Danielle McNally and Audra Heilman each scored a goal, while Brenna Moeljadi tallied two defensive saves and Maggie Olson recorded nine saves in the win.
OLSON, B1G FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Maggie Olson was named Big Ten Freshman of the Week on Sept. 27 for her performance in goal against Northwestern. She recorded nine saves in her 70:00 minutes in goal against the Wildcats, giving up just one goal and picking up her sixth win. She is undefeated in 2011 and leads the Big Ten in goals against average (0.89) and save percentage (.833).
HOOSIERS IN THE POLLS
Indiana enters this week's Kookaburra/NFHCA Coaches' Poll ranked No. 13 after beating then-No. 15 Northwestern last week. The Hoosiers' schedule is full of top-20 talent and teams earning votes, including No. 6 Stanford, No. 7 Penn State, No. 9 Duke, No. 11 Cal, No. 12 Iowa, No. 14 Michigan, No. 16 Northwestern, No. 19 Louisville and No. 20 Ohio State. The Hoosiers are also ranked No. 8 in the womensfieldhockey.com weekly poll. Nine IU opponents are also among the top-20, including No. 4 Stanford, No. 7 Cal, No. 9 Penn State, No. 10 Duke, No. 13 Northwestern, No. 14 Iowa, No. 15 Michigan, No. 16 Louisville and No. 20 Ohio State.
100 AND COUNTING
Head coach Amy Robertson tallied her 100th career win as the Hoosiers beat Ball State, 4-0, on Saturday, Sept. 3. In her 12th season at Indiana, Robertson owns a 104-108 mark.
HOOSIER NOTABLES
• Morgan Fleetwood became IU's career shots leader in IU's win over Northwestern. Fleetwood's third shot broke the record of 178 set by Olympian Kayla Bashore (2001-05). Her career tally is now 183 after taking seven shots vs. the Wildcats.
• Fleetwood, Katie Griswold and Brenna Moeljadi are among Big Ten Players to Watch for the 2011 season, announced by the league on Aug. 24.
• Griswold and Moeljadi are the team captains for the 2011 squad.
• The Hoosiers welcome eight new faces to the roster, including seven freshmen and a fifth-year graduate student.
