Sept. 7, 2011
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2011-12 Indiana women's basketball schedule is highlighted by 15 games at Assembly Hall and five nationally televised games on the Big Ten Network (BTN) with the possibility of three additional games on the BTN. The Hoosiers will face opponents from the ACC, Big 12 and BIG EAST, to go along with the 16-game Big Ten schedule.
IU will tipoff the year with a pair of exhibition contests against St. Ambrose on Nov. 3 followed by Indianapolis on Nov. 8, both at Assembly Hall. The regular season will commence on Nov. 11 at Central Arkansas, then the Hoosiers will return home to welcome Murray State on Nov. 14. Indiana will then round out the month with road contests at Belmont (Nov. 18) and Miami (OH) (Nov. 22), before hosting Toledo (Nov. 25).
The December slate is highlighted with the annual Big Ten/ACC Challenge game at Virginia on Dec. 1 followed by the second installment of the Big 12/Big Ten Challenge against Oklahoma State on Dec. 4. Later in the month, IU will play in the Caribbean Challenge in Cancun, Mexico on Dec. 20-21 against BIG EAST foe Pittsburgh and Colorado State.
Big Ten action will begin with a nationally-televised game with Michigan State visiting Bloomington on Dec. 30. Including the Spartans, Indiana will play conference home-away games with Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State and Purdue. IU's one-play Big Ten opponents will be Minnesota, Nebraska and Penn State on the road with Illinois, Iowa and Wisconsin at home.
"I am excited about our schedule this season. We have some tough battles on the road early on, but those experiences will help us as the calendar turns to 2012," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "We play some teams that we haven't played in my tenure here and we are anxious to face opponents from the ACC, Big 12, BIG EAST and the reigning WNIT champions in Toledo. The most exciting part to us, outside of the Cancun trip, is the Big Ten schedule. Any conference matchup is going to be a challenging game against a tough opponent."
