Women's Golf Opens Fall Season at Home

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2011-12 Indiana University women's golf season is set to get underway this Saturday and Sunday with the IU Fall Kickoff at the Indiana University Golf Course.
The Hoosiers will be joined by Christian Brothers University, Franklin College, IUPUI, University of Indianapolis, Valparaiso and Indiana State for the 36-hole event. The teams will play 18 holes on Saturday, with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start. The tournament concludes with another 18 holes Sunday, also starting at 8:30 a.m.
Senior Kristtini Cain leads the Hoosiers after posting seven top-30 finishes in 2010-11, including a tie for 15th at the Lady Northern Invitational and a 26th-place finish at the Big Ten Championships. She is joined by junior co-captain Kate Coons who also had a solid season last year, tying for 27th at the Big Ten Championships and finishing tied for 12th at the Wolverine Invitational.
Junior Pamela Burneski is coming off a solid summer where she won her third-straight Tamarack Golf Tournament title. Her best finish in 2010-11 was a tie for seventh at the Wolverine Invitational.
Junior Rosie Davies finished among the top 40 at the Big Ten Championships in her first season at IU, placing tied for 32nd. Sophomore Sophie Hayashi came on strong at the end of her rookie season, placing tied for 29th at the Big Ten Championships.
Joining the returnees are freshmen Elizabeth Tong and Kamryn Klawitter. Tong hails from Thornhill, Ontario and has already gotten off to a fast start, winning the first fall qualifying event. Klawitter hails from Munster, Ind. and comes to IU as an Evans Scholar.
After this weekend the Hoosiers hit the road for the Mary Fossum Invitational, Sept. 17-18 in East Lansing, Mich. Indiana will be the host for two other events this fall, the Lady Northern Invitational in French Lick, Ind., and the IU Fall Invitational at Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
