BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sherry Dunbar added another great piece to her 2012 recruiting class this week with the signing of All-American setter, Katie Gallagher. A 2012 Under Armor All-American from Elmhurst, Ill., Gallagher was one of the top players out of the Chicago area the past two seasons.
Dunbar said she looks forward to adding another accomplished and fiery player to the IU roster.
"We are obviously very excited to add a player of Katie's caliber to our other four in the class of 2012," said Dunbar. "Katie has earned many accolades during her high school and club career, but the critical element that she will add to our program is her competitiveness and fire. I look forward to her coming into Indiana to challenge her teammates everyday to help our team get better and earn the status of a nationally competitive program."
Katie Gallagher, the daughter of John and Margo Gallagher, is a 5-8 setter from Elmhurst, Ill. She was a standout for York High School and the 1st Alliance Volleyball Club. She earned honorable mention Under Armor All-America honors and led 1st Alliance to a win at the JVA World Challenge in the 17 Open Division. She took All-Area honors from the Chicago Daily Herald and Chicago Sun-Times in 2010 and 2011. She was named first team all state by the News Gazette in 2011 and honorable mention all state by the Chicago Tribune in 2010 and 2011. Gallagher led York to two historic seasons in 2010 and 2011, including a fourth place finish in Class 4A in the school's first trip to the state finals and the school's best record ever of 36-4 in 2011. Led 1st Alliance to 10th place at nationals and a final national ranking of eighth by PrepVolleyball.com. PrepVolleyball.com also named her a "Senior Ace" as one of the top graduating players in the country. A team captain for York and 1st Alliance, Gallagher earned Academic All-Conference honors as a junior and a senior.
