Purdie Selected in MLS Supplemental Draft

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The 2012 Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft was held Tuesday afternoon, and Indiana University midfielder/forward Alec Purdie was the 22nd overall selection, selected by the New England Revolution.
Purdie joins Tommy Meyer (Los Angeles Galaxy) and Chris Estridge (Vancouver Whitecaps) as Hoosiers drafted in 2012. Meyer and Estridge were selected in last Thursday's MLS SuperDraft in Kansas City.

Alec will be reunited with his former teammate, Kevin Alston, as he joins the New England Revolution. "It has always been my dram to play at the next level," Purdie said. "I am happy to have gotten the chance and I am going to make the most of it."
Purdie started all 22 matches this season, finishing second on the team in points (21) and third in goals scored (eight). A first-team All-Big Ten honoree, Purdie led the Big Ten in game-winning goals with five and finished in the top five among conference players in shots (fourth), shots per game (fourth), points (second), points per game (third), goals (tied-fourth) and goals per game (fifth).
In 63 matches played, Purdie made 35 starts and finished his IU career with 12 goals and 10 assists.
Purdie joins fellow Hoosier Kevin Alston (2006-08) in New England. Alston is entering his fourth season with the Revolution and was an MLS All-Star in 2010.
