Hoosiers Sweep CWPA Weekly Awards

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The No. 10 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team claimed each of the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Western Division weekly awards after a 2-1 start to the season at the Michigan Kick-Off, the conference office announced on Tuesday.
Sophomore Shae Fournier was named Player of the Week, senior Cassie Wyckoff earned Defensive Player of the Week, and freshman Colleen McNaught picked up Rookie of the Week honors.
Fournier led the Hoosiers in goals (8), steals (8), and field blocks (15) at the Michigan Kick-Off en route to earning her 11th weekly honor from the CWPA and third Player of the Week award.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native began the weekend with two goals, four steals, and four field blocks in the 6-3 win over No. 12 Michigan. She followed up with a pair of goals, two steals, and five field blocks in a 10-5 loss to No. 3 UCLA.
Fournier capped the tournament with a career-high-tying four goals, to go along with two steals, six field blocks, and two earned exclusions in a 9-6 triumph over Colorado State. Her high scoring effort against CSU marked the fifth four-goal game of her career and 21st multi-goal performance.
Wyckoff was dominant in the cage for the Hoosiers, racking up 30 saves in three complete games with a 6.33 goals against average, along with one steal to earn her 10th weekly honor.
Wyckoff opened the season with 12 saves and a steal in the win over Michigan, including a shutout of the Wolverines in the fourth period.
The Los Altos, Calif. native recorded eight saves in the loss to UCLA and rounded out the trip with 10 stops against Colorado State. The double-digit outing against CSU marked the 35th of her Hoosier career.
Wyckoff raised her career total to 782 saves and is in second on the IU all-time list, behind Jessica Goldner's 891.
McNaught wasted little time in making her presence felt for the Hoosiers in her debut campaign, finishing the weekend with four goals, three assists, a steal, and a team-high-tying four earned exclusions.
McNaught scored the first IU goal of the season at the 5:23 mark of the opening quarter against Michigan. She ended with two goals against the Wolverines, to go along with two assists, a steal, and two earned exclusions.
The Dana Point, Calif. native had a goal and a kick-out earned against UCLA, while notching a goal, an assist, a field block, and an earned exclusion in the win over CSU.
