Hoosiers Drop Regular Season Finale To No. 25 Ohio State

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The Indiana women's soccer team (9-9-1, 4-7 Big Ten) suffered a 5-0 loss at home on Senior Night to the 25th-ranked Ohio State Buckeyes (13-4-1, 8-2-1 Big Ten). As a result, Indiana must now wait until the end of Saturday's game between Iowa and Wisconsin to determine if the Hoosiers will advance to the Big Ten Tournament.
In order for the Hoosiers to advance, Iowa has to lose or tie against the Badgers in Iowa City.
Indiana collected six corner kicks but was not able to find the back of the net in the game, while Ohio State held a 13-7 edge in shots. The Hoosiers best opportunity came when Rebecca Candler broke in on goal on the right side and fired a shot towards the near post, but OSU keeper Jillian McVicker was there to deflect the ball over the endline. The other good scoring chance for IU came in the closing seconds when Tori Keller sent the corner kick in towards the near post and Kate McCusker's deflection went right at the OSU keeper who hung on for the save.
On Friday night at Armstrong Stadium, the Buckeyes wasted little time getting on the board first, scoring at the 2:10 mark on Aly Walker's third goal of the season, assisted by Megan Fuller on a corner kick. Then just over two minutes later they tacked on another goal, this one by Lauren Granberg. The quick strike offense for OSU was back at it just before halftime with a pair of goals less than a minute apart to make it 4-0 at intermission.
They would go on to add their final goal in the 55th minute on Tiffany Howard's 18th of the year.
Prior to the game, the three senior members of the team - Ciersten Burks, Molly Buynak and Orianica Velasquez - were recognized for their contributions to the program over their careers. The team also presented head coach Mick Lyon with a game ball commemorating his 200th career victory, which occurred earlier this year (Oct. 11) against Purdue.
