INDIANAPOLIS - Two storied men's soccer programs will join another making its second straight appearance in the Men's College Cup and another making its first-ever appearance at the Division I men's soccer championship. All-session tickets for the Men's College Cup, at Regions Park in Hoover, Ala. on Friday and Sunday, are available and can be purchased for $35 by going to www.NCAA.com/tickets.
After being absent from the College Cup since 2004, Indiana is making a record 18th appearance and is in search of its eighth national title. Indiana trails only St. Louis, which has 10 championships, for the most all-time. The 16th-seeded Hoosiers defeated Xavier, top-seeded Notre Dame and No. 9 North Carolina to reach the semis. Indiana will take on Creighton in the second semifinal on Friday, scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. Central.
The 12th-seeded Bluejays advanced to their fifth College Cup in school history and are coming off a 2011 season that saw them lose to Charlotte on penalty kicks in the national semifinals. Creighton downed Washington, fifth-seeded Akron in overtime and fourth-seeded Connecticut on a goal with 90 seconds remaining to reach the semifinals. The first semifinal, scheduled to start at 4 p.m. Central, pits third-seeded Georgetown against No. 2 Maryland, which is making its 12th College Cup appearance and is seeking its fourth national championship. The Terrapins defeated Brown, Coastal Carolina and Louisville to earn their trip to Hoover.
Maryland will take on a Georgetown team making its first-ever trip to the College Cup. The Hoyas, who are participating in only their fourth NCAA tournament in school history, edged Charlotte and Syracuse before beating San Diego in the quarterfinals. The national championship game will take place Sunday at 1 p.m. Central. All three games of the Men's College Cup can be seen on ESPNU and ESPN3.
