Hoosiers Fall to Ohio State in B1G Match Play Quarterfinals

BRADENTON, Fla. -
The No. 3 seed Indiana Hoosiers men's golf team fell to No. 6 seed Ohio State, 3-2-1, in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Match Play Championship on Friday at The Concession GC on a day that saw the top-three seeds fall. The Hoosiers will take on No. 12 seed Nebraska in the consolation bracket on Saturday morning.
Senior Chase Wright and freshman Andrew Fogg registered the two IU victories against the Buckeyes, while senior David Erdy earned a halve.
Wright notched four birdies on the day, including one on the par-4 eighth to grab the late 1-up lead against Alex Redfield after the two teams began matches on the 10th hole. The Muncie, Ind. native sealed the deal with a tying par on the ninth.
Fogg seized control of his matchup with Logan Jones near the midway point, winning three straight holes on the 18th, first and second, to gain a 3-up lead. Fogg held the lead for the remainder of the match to grab the 3&1 victory.
Erdy and Matt Turner tied their finals six holes en route to a halve. The Boonville, Ind. native jumped out to a 2-up lead after two, but the two players were back-and-forth for the remainder of the matchup.
Sophomore David Mills, junior Brant Peaper, and junior Corey Ziedonis were defeated by their Buckeye counterparts to end the quarterfinal dual.
