Indiana Falls to No. 19/21 Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Indiana fell on the road to No. 19/21 Penn State on Thursday night at the Bryce Jordan Center, 76-44. The Hoosiers were led in scoring by Milika Taufa with nine points as Sasha Chaplin skied for a career-high 16 rebounds to lead IU.
In the opening minutes, Andrea Newbauer drove the lane to nail a layup to tie the contest, 4-4. Danilsa Andujar then hit a free throw to give IU a 5-4 edge with 18:00 on the clock.
The Lady Lions then scored 13-straight points to lead, 17-5. Indiana responded with back-to-back Milika Taufa field goals to pull within eight, 17-9. Chaplin then followed with a jumper to make the deficit six points with 9:27 to play.
After a PSU free throw, Newbauer found an open lane again for a lay in to cap an 8-1 Indiana run. IU trailed by five, 18-13, with 9:02 left until halftime. The Lady Lions would go on to close the half strong and take a 42-23 advantage into the locker room.
Out of the break, IU scored the first four points of the half with free throws from Aulani Sinclair and a Chaplin field goal. Penn State responded with a 10-2 run and never looked back to hold on for the victory.
The Hoosiers will return home on Sunday, Feb. 5, for a contest with Iowa. That game will tip at 2 p.m. ET. IU will be celebrating National Girls and Women in Sports Day with interactive booths and activities throughout the concourse of Assembly Hall. Doors open at 12:30 p.m. for this special event.
Game Notes
• Sasha Chaplin had a career-high 16 rebounds on the night to lead Indiana. It marks the fourth-consecutive game in which she has tallied 10 or more boards. Chaplin has had double-digit rebounds in six contests overall this season. She also scored eight points in the game.
• Milika Taufa finished the game with a team-high nine points. It is the first time in her career she had led Indiana in scoring for a single game.
