PARRISH, Fla. - The Indiana University women's golf team shot rounds of 314 and 310 for a total of 624, good for 14th in the 15-team Central District Invitational Field at the River Wilderness Country Club in Parrish, Fla.
Oklahoma leads the field with a score of 584. It is followed by TCU (586), Vanderbilt (587), Michigan State (589) and LSU (592).
"I thought we had reasonable play, especially for our first tournament of the spring," said head coach Clint Wallman. "The things we have been working on, our patience and putting, we did really well. Coming out of the winter break there will be a rust factor and we need to get back into the groove of going through a 36-hole day.
"Tomorrow we are going to go out and try to play the percentages. It boils down to hitting fairways, hitting greens and staying patient. We just didn't quite finish things out today, but we will be rested and ready to go."
Senior Kristtini Cain leads the Hoosiers after rounds of 76 and 75 put her in a tie for 25th. Junior Rosie Davies is six strokes back from her teammate at 157, tallying an 80 in round one and a 77 in round two (157). That places her in a tie for 58th. Just one stroke back is junior Pamela Burneski, tied for 63rd at 163 (80-78). Junior Kate Coons sits alone in 66th with rounds of 78 and 81 adding up to a 159 on the scoreboard. Freshman Elizabeth Tong posted identical rounds of 80 and is tied for 67th with a 36-hole score of 160.
The Hoosiers return to the course for the final 18-hole round Tuesday morning.
