Hollinger-Janzen Named Indiana Gatorade Player of the Year

CHICAGO - Indiana University men's soccer signee Femi Hollinger-Janzen has been named the Indiana Gatorade Boys Soccer Player of the Year for 2012, it was announced this week.
The award recognizes not only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field. Now a finalist for the prestigious Gatorade National Boys Soccer Player of the Year award to be announced in May, Hollinger-Janzen joins an elite alumni association of past state award-winners in 12 sports, including Abby Wambach (1997-98, Our Lady of Mercy, N.Y.), Derek Jeter (1991-92, Kalamazoo HS, Mich.), Candace Parker (2001-02, Naperville Central HS, Ill.), and Alexi Lalas (1987-88, Cranbrook HS, Mich).
Hollinger-Janzen netted 29 goals and tallied eight assists this past season for Bethany Christian High School in Goshen, leading the Bruins to an 18-4-1 record that included Class 1A sectional and regional titles. He finished his high school career with 67 goals and 23 assists.
The Indiana Soccer Coaches Association State Player of the Year, Janzen was an All-America selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America and a two-time Northern Indiana Soccer Conference Player of the Year.
This is the fourth-straight year that an IU player has won the award. Freshman Eriq Zavaleta was the state honoree in 2011, while sophomore A.J. Corrado won it in 2010 and sophomore Harrison Petts in 2009.
