200 Backstroke
James Wells shaved nearly five seconds off his previous career best with a time of 1:42.92 in prelims and is the second-fastest qualifier heading into tonight’s final. Jim Barbiere just missed the consolation final, finishing 17th in 1:45.63. That is a career best for Barbiere, taking nearly three seconds off his previous time. Steve Schmuhl finished 34th in 1:50.03.
100 Freestyle
Matt Gerth posted a career time of 44.75, good for second in his heat and 31st overall. Daniel Kanorr was 33rd with a time of 44.84. Mike Hurley was third in his heat and 46th overall with a career time of 45.16.
200 Breaststroke
Cody Miller enters the championship final as the fastest qualifier, going 1:55.14 in prelims. Sam Trahin joins him in the championship final with a career time of 1:57.60, good for fourth. Ian Boggs will swim the consolation final after putting up a 1:59.94, nearly four seconds faster than his career best. Nicholas Schwab cut more than two seconds off his career best, finishing 17th in 2:00.37. Pedro Martir also posted a career time, going 2:07.71 for a 36th-place finish.
200 Butterfly
Tyler Shedron went a career-best 1:45.75 to finish seventh and make it back for tonight’s championship final. Steve Schmuhl posted an NCAA B cut time of 1:48.09 to finish 19th.
