Hoosiers Place Tied for 5th at Westbrook Invitational

PEORIA, Ariz. - The Indiana women's golf team posted its first top-five finish of the spring season, placing tied for fifth at the Westbrook Invitational held at the Westbrook Village Golf Club in Peoria, Ariz.
Indiana finished with a 298 on Monday to tally a 54-hole score of 879 (287-294-298), matching the effort from Iowa. Illinois was crowned team champion with a score of 853, followed by Texas Tech (856), Washington State (866) and Kansas State (874).
"We didn't finish our round off today, and conditions made scoring hard for all the teams," head coach Clint Wallman said. "Overall this was a positive event and gives us good momentum heading into spring break. Everyone played well this week and all the work they have been putting in really paid off."
Senior Kristtini Cain led Indiana with a three-round total of 214 (69-71-74), tying her for seventh. That is the best 54-hole performance of the year by Cain, shaving 12 strokes off her previous best.
Junior Pamela Burneski finished in the top 20 for the second time this season, placing tied for 16th with a score of 219. After rounds of 72 and 74 on Sunday, Burneski had the low round of the day for IU Monday with a 73.
Freshman Elizabeth Tong tied for 27th after a 77 on Monday gave her a score of 222 (71-74-77). That is a 54-hole low for Tong, beating her previous best of 224 set at the Lady Northern Intercollegiate.
Junior Rosie Davies tied for 46th with a score of 227. After an opening round of 77 on Sunday, she followed up with back-to-back scores of 75, moving her into the top 50.
Junior Kate Coons also posted a top-50 finish, tying for 49th with a tally of 228. Coons came back to shoot a 76 on Monday after ending Sunday's competition with a 77. She opened tournament play with a 75.
Competing as an individual, sophomore Sophie Hayashi finished 66th with a tally of 157. With her round one score disqualified due to an unsigned scorecard, Hayashi came back with a 78 on Monday after putting up a 79 in round two.
The Hoosiers are back on the course march 16-18 at the Lady Jaguar Classic in Augusta, Ga.
