BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana University head men's soccer coach Todd Yeagley was one of four inducted into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame Saturday night.
Yeagley was presented the award at the annual Hall of Fame banquet on Feb. 25 at the Renaissance North Hotel in Carmel, Ind.
"I am honored to be selected into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame," Yeagley said. "I was fortunate to have so many great coaches and teammates throughout my playing days who helped achieve this honor."
An Indiana native, Yeagley is no stranger to soccer circles in the state. A high school All-American out of Bloomington South, Yeagley was a four-year All-America honoree at IU. In 1994 he was named the Missouri Athletic Club Player of the Year, sharing National Player of the Year honors with teammate Brian Maisonneuve, winner of the Hermann Trophy that same season.
After his IU career Yeagley spent a successful seven-year professional career in Major League Soccer with the Columbus Crew. Columbus advanced to the MLS Playoffs in five of Yeagley's seven seasons with the team and won the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup in 2002.
In 2002, Yeagley served as the Assistant General Manager for Columbus before returning to the Hoosiers as an assistant coach in 2003. He was with the Hoosiers until 2009, when he spent one season as head coach at the University of Wisconsin. He returned to Bloomington to take over the Indiana program in December 2009.
Inducted alongside Yeagley was former teammate Mike Clark. Clark and Yeagley go way back, having played together on Indiana Soccer Camp and ODP teams. After their careers as Hoosiers, the pair spent seven years at teammates on the Columbus Crew squad.
Other members of the Hall of Fame with Hoosier ties include Paul DiBernardo, Dan Kapsalis, Greg Mauch, Don Rawson, Juergen Sommer, Terry Stefankiewicz, John Stollmeyer and Jerry Yeagley.
The Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame was started in 1992. To be eligible for induction into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame, candidates must demonstrate outstanding or lifetime achievement.
The Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame exists to honor the outstanding achievements and contributions of individuals whose significant accomplishments and effect upon the sport in Indiana merit the highest recognition; to promote the sport of soccer to both the soccer community and to the general public; to honor those who contributed to the growth of soccer in Indiana; to provide future generations with exemplary citizenship role models, and to build and bring public attention to the sport of soccer
Candidates are reviewed on an annual basis by a Selection Committee for induction into the Indiana Soccer Hall of Fame.
