Fournier, Wyckoff Earn CWPA Weekly Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Sophomore Shae Fournier and senior Cassie Wyckoff earned weekly awards from the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) for their play at the Roadrunner Invitational, leading the No. 12 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team (19-4, 1-1 CWPA West) to a perfect 4-0 mark in Bakersfield, Calif.
Fournier earned her third consecutive Western Division Player of the Week award and Wyckoff notched her fourth Defensive Player of the Week honor of the 2012 season.
Fournier posted seven goals during the four-game slate, including two game-winners, while also recording three assists, six steals, 11 field blocks, four earned kickouts, and an earned five-meter penalty.
The Winnipeg, Manitoba native opened the weekend by rifling in a shot with three-tenths of a second remaining against No. 19 Long Beach State to lift the Hoosiers to victory, 7-6. She also posted three steals, two field blocks, an assist, and an earned kickout against the 49ers.
Fournier registered a hat trick in the Hoosiers' 14-8 win over Azusa Pacific, along with a steal and a field block.
Against Wagner, Fournier came up big on the defensive end with a team-high six field blocks and two steals. She also notched a goal, an earned kickout, and an earned five-meter penalty against the Seahawks.
Fournier came up big in crunch time once again during the weekend finale against CSU Bakersfield, finding the back of the cage with 34 seconds remaining to give the Hoosiers a 9-8 victory.
Fournier has racked up 15 career weekly awards from the CWPA, including five in 2012.
Wyckoff provided steady play at the goalkeeper position, finishing the weekend with 37 saves, four steals, and a pair of assists in 96 minutes of action.
Wyckoff grabbed 12 saves and a steal against LBSU, while also dishing out a pair of assists in the second half.
The Los Altos, Calif. native notched nine saves and a steal against Wagner, while allowing just four goals.
She capped the weekend with a 16 save performance against CSU Bakersfield, marking her 15th double-digit save outing of the year. Wyckoff came up with two clutch saves in the final minute of play to help secure the win.
The weekly award marks the 13th of Wyckoff's career.
