No. 12 Hoosiers Cruise Past Redlands

REDLANDS, Calif. - The No. 12 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team (19-4, 1-1 CWPA West) put together a wire-to-wire victory at Redlands, 14-7, on Tuesday to capture their eighth consecutive win.
Sophomore Shae Fournier tied a career-high with five goals to lead the Hoosiers. Freshman Summer Creighton notched a career-best four goals, while freshman Katie Contreras also posted a career-high two scores. The freshmen trio of Nina Escobedo, Colleen McNaught, and Shelby Taylor posted one goal apiece.
Senior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff had six saves and allowed three goals in 24 minutes of action. Freshman Jojo White notched one save and grabbed a steal in eight minutes.
McNaught got the scoring started for the Hoosiers early in the first quarter on an assist by Taylor.
Redlands tied things up a minute later with a long-range goal, but Taylor connected with Fournier for another IU goal at the 3:27 mark to retake the lead. Taylor finished the game with a career-high-tying three assists.
After a Redlands post-up goal, the Hoosiers began a relentless scoring attack that resulted in a 10-goal run to put the game out of reach.
Creighton and Fournier finished off the first quarter with goals to take a 4-2 lead into the second quarter, and the duo continued the run in the second period with each scoring again to grab a four-goal lead.
Indiana added two more goals in the final 38 seconds of the half with goals from Taylor and Escobedo. Escobedo's score came with one second remaining, keyed by a Wyckoff save on the other end.
Fournier added her fourth goal of the contest near the midway point of the third quarter after an assist by Creighton to give the Hoosiers a 9-2 advantage. The Hoosiers continued to hold momentum late in the third with two goals from Contreras and one from Creighton to take their biggest lead of the game at 12-2.
Redlands went on to score the game's next four goals to pull within six by the 5:33 mark of the fourth quarter.
Fournier notched her fifth score on an assist by junior Kym King with 3:11 to play, followed by Creighton's fourth goal after a dish by Fournier.
Redlands added a goal with 41 seconds left and the Hoosiers claimed the seven-goal win.
