TUCSON, Ariz. - The Indiana women's golf team posted a final-round score of 297 to finish fourth at the Mountain View Collegiate at the Mountain View Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz.
The Hoosiers finished with a final tally of 873 (285-291-297). Texas Tech earned the team title with a 54-hole score of 858, followed by Iowa State (865), Ohio State (871), the Hoosiers and Nebraska (878).
"It was a little bit of a struggle today but we hung in there pretty tough," said head coach Clint Wallman. "We got great play from Kate (Coons) and Kristtini (Cain) who both posted even par. That was a big boost for our team. Elizabeth (Tong) was strong again at three over. Overall, it was a great effort from the team for the week and I am very positive about what we did here and I look forward to our next event at home."
Junior Kate Coons was rewarded for her consistency by finishing tied for ninth after posting score of 72 in each of the three rounds (216). Coons was joined in the top 15 by senior Kristtini Cain, who also posted a 72 on Saturday for a three-round total of 218 (74-72-72).
Junior Rosie Davies was the third Hoosier to finish in the top 20, placing tied for 18th with a score of 219. Davies struggled in the final round, posting a 79, but had a strong start to the tournament with rounds of 68 and 72 on Friday.
Freshman Elizabeth Tong finished tied for 32nd in her first trip to Mountain View, posting a 75 on Saturday to finish at 223 (71-77-75). Junior Pamela Burneski rounded out the Hoosier lineup, finishing tied for 55th (76-75-78/229).
