SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio - The No. 15 Indiana Hoosiers women's water polo team (23-7, 4-1 CWPA West) registered its fourth consecutive double-digit scoring performance, routing Gannon, 15-5, to wrap up a weekend of CWPA Western Division play at Notre Dame College.
Sophomore Shae Fournier tied the Indiana single-season scoring record of 80 goals set by Jakie Köhli in 2010, notching four scores in the first half against the Knights. Fournier moved to seventh on the IU all-time goals list with 141.
Freshman Colleen McNaught fired in a career-high four goals in the win. Katie Contreras, Hanna Eimstad, Nina Escobedo, Alexis Jones, Devon Peterson, Alynn Reade, and Amanda Redfern each posted one goal.
Senior goalkeeper Cassie Wyckoff made the start and finished with three saves, two assists, and a steal in 16 minutes. Freshman Jojo White came on in the second half and recorded a save and a steal.
McNaught established momentum early for the Hoosiers, finding the back of the cage on the second possession of the game after a Wyckoff outlet pass. Fournier followed up with a power play strike after a dish from freshman Shelby Taylor.
Two minutes later, Fournier found an open McNaught for her second goal of the contest to give the Hoosiers a 3-0 lead by the midway point of the opening quarter.
Gannon got on the board late in the period, scoring during a man-up situation.
Fournier found the cage early and often in the second quarter to help the Hoosiers pull away. The Winnipeg, Manitoba native notched a long-range goal 30 seconds into the period, followed by a counter-attack score after another long assist by Wyckoff.
The record-tying goal came at the 4:19 mark after Fournier earned a five-meter penalty and rifled in the shot for her fourth score of the game, giving the Hoosiers a 6-1 lead.
The Hoosiers continued to pull away as McNaught fired in her third goal to go ahead 7-1 after a dish from Fournier.
After a Gannon goal as the shot clock wound down, Eimstad and Contreras responded with a pair of strikes to give the Cream and Crimson a 9-2 lead at the half.
Indiana's steady offense continued in the third, scoring four straight goals to open up a 13-2 margin.
Redfern was active in the early portion of the third, earning a pair of exclusions that led to her own goal, as well as McNaught's fourth of the day.
Escobedo launched in a long-range shot near the midway point of the third after an assist by freshman Shelley St. Omer Roy. Peterson followed with a power play conversion to put the Hoosiers up by 11 until Gannon scored with five seconds left in the period.
Both teams exchanged a pair of goals in the fourth quarter, with Jones posting her goal at the 4:03 mark and Reade converting 32 seconds later.
The Hoosiers will be back in action with a rivalry clash against No. 10 Michigan at noon on March 31 in Ann Arbor, Mich. The game will be nationally televised on the Big Ten Network.
