2012 IU Volleyball Schedule
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Indiana Volleyball Head Coach Sherry Dunbar announced the program's 2012 schedule, including 16 matches to be played in University Gym. The Hoosiers will host two home tournaments and visit preseason tournaments at West Point and Butler. IU will play Big Ten slate that includes 10 home matches and is hosting rival Purdue on Wednesday, Oct. 17.
Dunbar said she looks forward to another season of outstanding volleyball in Bloomington.
"I really like our preseason schedule," said Dunbar. "Getting back to hosting two tournaments, so we can play in front of our home crowd will obviously be a benefit to us. Bringing in teams like Georgia Tech, who we had a great match with a few years back at their place, and other quality teams from around the country will allow us to be battle tested and face a lot of different styles of play prior to the Big Ten portion of our schedule.
"I love the addition of the Butler tournament. We haven't played Butler in the fall since I've been coaching at Indiana, and I think that's a great in-state rival that will be fun for both teams. Playing in the historic Hinkle Fieldhouse and in the great city of Indianapolis is something the team is sure to look forward to."
The Hoosiers open the season on the weekend of Aug. 24-25 at the Black Knight Invitational at West Point. IU will play Army, Stony Brook and Quinnipiac at the tournament. Next up is IU's first home tourney of the year, as the Hoosiers will host Georgia Tech, Cleveland State and Bowling Green on the weekend of Aug. 31-Sept. 1.
The Butler Invitational sees IU match up with the Bulldogs, Bradley and Stephen F. Austin on the weekend of Sept. 7-8. The Hoosiers will close out the preseason at home, hosting Chattanooga, Miami (Ohio) and Valparaiso on the weekend of Sept. 14-15.
Indiana opens the Big Ten schedule at Michigan (Sept. 21) and Michigan State (Sept. 22), before returning home to play Illinois (Sept. 28) and Northwestern (Sept. 29), rounding out the month of September.
In October, IU hosts Iowa and Nebraska on Oct. 5 and 6. A road trip to Ohio State (Oct. 12) and Penn State (Oct. 13) is next up, followed by a home match with Purdue on the 17th and a trip to Madison for a showdown with Wisconsin on the 21st. Rematches with the Spartans and Wolverines close out October on the 26th and 27th in Bloomington.
November starts with a two-weekend road trip to Northwestern and Illinois on the second and third and to Nebraska and Iowa on the ninth and 10th. The Nittany Lions visit U-Gym on Friday, Nov. 16 and the Buckeyes will follow the next day. Rounding out the regular season, IU visits Purdue on Wednesday, Nov. 21 and hosts Minnesota on Saturday, Nov. 24.
